(Seattle, Wash.) Seattle Children’s Theatre is thrilled to bring Corduroy to the stage this holiday season. An extension of the beloved children’s book by Don Freeman, Corduroy comes to life in a fun, vibrant, and highly physical adaptation.

Originated at Children’s Theatre Company, the production comes to STC under the direction of Kathryn Van Meter and runs in the Charlotte Martin Theater from November 21 through December 29, 2019.

Originally published in in 1968, Corduroy has been cherished by families for decades and voted one of the “Top 100 Children’s Books” of all time by the School Library Journal. Written and illustrated by Don Freeman, the book tells a heartwarming tale of a teddy bear named Corduroy searching for his missing button in a department store after dark. The story resonates with children and parents alike when the bear’s mischievous quest leads him to Lisa, a young girl looking to care for a stuffed companion. “Who doesn’t remember a special childhood toy that we thought of as a real friend? And one that came to life, if only in our imaginations?” says playwright Barry Korhauser. While the stage adaptation holds closely to the themes of friendship, love, and acceptance presented in the source material, it is also filled to the brim with mischief and laughs as we follow Corduroy on his comedic adventure. “The uproarious comedy and heartwarming nostalgia in Corduroy creates a perfect place for families to gather during the holidays”, says director Kathryn Van Meter, “laughter lights up the theatre during the darkest months of the year”.

SCT invites audiences young and old to join Corduroy this holiday season as his mission to find his missing button leads him to the friendship of a lifetime.
