(Seattle, Wash) – Seattle Children’s Theatre’s Board of Directors has launched a national search for the Theatre’s next Artistic Director (AD). The search will be conducted in partnership with a board- and community-led committee and with the counsel of Management Consultants for the Arts.
SCT seeks a creative and inclusive leader who will build upon the organization’s 47-year history as one of the most important theatres for youth and family audiences in the United States, particularly with respect to new work.

The Artistic Director will serve as the guiding artistic voice and as a co-equal partner with SCT’s Managing Director, Kevin Malgesini. Together, both executive positions will ensure that the company is resilient, nimble, and prepped for growth while balancing optimism and achievement with a responsible and realistic approach to operations.

“SCT’s future is bright, and we seek an inclusive and collaborative artistic leader who can continue our commitment to new work for new young audiences, deepen our community relationships and, most importantly, take a progressive approach to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in order to advance the values deeply held by Board leadership and staff,” said Anh Nguyen, SCT board president.

As previously reported, Courtney Sale, former SCT Artistic Director, stepped down from her role in February 2020 to assume the Nancy L. Donahue Artistic Director position at The Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) in Lowell, MA. Previous to Sale, Linda Hartzell served as the Artistic Director from 1984 to her retirement in 2016.
