(Seattle, Wash.) Forget everything you thought you knew about Snow White, which will usher in the New Year at Seattle Children’s Theatre. Deep in the forest, a classic tale emerges and is then radically transformed as two dynamic actors morph into a multitude of characters–including a princess, her evil queen, a magical mirror, a huntsman, and the humorous seven dwarfs. Both lively and imaginative, this new adaptation will leave you experiencing this classical story with an entirely fresh perspective and asking: How did they do that? Snow White is on the Charlotte Martin Mainstage from February 6-March 8.
Based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, Snow White has been adapted numerous times in the last century and comes to SCT as a regional premiere. Originated at Children’s Theatre Company and written by Greg Banks, the production takes the common fairytale themes of damsels and dwarfs and flips them on their heads.
“For me this production is a personal love letter to the young women in my life, especially those who are at an age where they are learning about the world, their place in it, and their relationships with other people,” said Desdemona Chiang, Director of Snow White. “It is important that young people see someone taking charge of their own story and what comes of that is not only technically masterful, but inspiring for audiences of all ages.”
In this fast-paced production, two actors take on over ten characters aided by clever set trickery and speedy costume changes. Audiences will be transported to the world of the fairytale they know and love, but with the help of some theatre magic, will see the story with a modern and comedic twist. As Snow White reclaims her own narrative, watch as humor, adventure, and the magic of storytelling come to light.
SCT invites audiences young and old to join Snow White and her band of comedic companions on the adventure of her lifetime. Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased online or by calling the Ticket Office at 206.441.3322. Snow White will play in the Charlotte Martin Theater from February 6 through March 8, 2020 and is recommended for patrons aged five and older.
